Bosch's Mastertech VCI (M-VCI) aftermarket scan tool now provides OEM level diagnostic and reprogramming functions for BMW and Mini vehicles by supporting BMW's Technical Information System (ISTA) application for the aftermarket.

Bosch’s Mastertech VCI (M-VCI) aftermarket scan tool now provides OEM level diagnostic and reprogramming functions for BMW and Mini vehicles by supporting BMW’s Technical Information System (ISTA) application for the aftermarket. “This is a powerful addition to M-VCI’s diagnostic capabilities which already boasts of two industry leading aftermarket diagnostics applications – ESI[tronic] 2.0, Shop Foreman Pro software, in addition to supporting the General Motors Tech2Win OEM diagnostic application,” said Ravi Subramanyan, Senior Product Manager for Bosch Diagnostics Business Unit.

“With the addition of ISTA functionality on BMW and Mini vehicles, the Mastertech VCI has reaffirmed its commitment to providing aftermarket diagnostic software, access to OEM level diagnostics, and ECU reprogramming, all through one common vehicle interface,” Subramanyan indicated.

The ISTA program is BMW’s aftermarket diagnostics and reprogramming software that is designed to use the J2534 API interface to provide OEM level capabilities. The ISTA application consists of several functionally oriented system components that communicate with each other, offering various features and functions, through an Internet connected Client/Server arrangement.  ISTA offers powerful BMW and Mini vehicle diagnostic (ISTA/D) and reprogramming (ISTA/P) capabilities, with various options for vehicle identification for highly specific information searches and guided troubleshooting.

Case Study: Owner of San Francisco-based Import Service Shop Delighted to Discover Just How Valuable His Business is to Qualified Buyers
I sometimes share case studies of the clients I have been able to assist in my role as an aftermarket business broker and provider of intermediary and advisory services. I do that when I think the story will provide a reader in similar circumstances with new insights or helpful information.
In the case of Cowden Automotive, Inc., I acted in a consulting capacity assisting the owner and his broker in valuing the business, creating a marketing plan, finding a qualified buyer, and arranging financing for the sale.

Needless to say, delivering that kind of good news to a shop owner is a rewarding experience. Technology and change are things we can’t control. In fact, “change” is perhaps the one thing we can count on. And, as in life, it’s how we deal with change that matters.
