Federal-Mogul Expands MOOG Line with New Control Arms, Other Components for Nearly 10 Million Late-Model Applications

Among the latest MOOG components are right and left upper control arms with premium integral ball joints for nearly 1.4 million 2002-2005 Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator models.

The industry-leading MOOG steering and suspension product line from Federal-Mogul is growing again, the company reports, with several new control arms and dozens of other premium-quality components covering nearly 10 million late-model, foreign nameplate and domestic vehicles. According to Federal-Mogul, included in the new part numbers are several “first to market” components that enable service providers to address a variety of emerging repair needs.

Among the latest MOOG components are right and left upper control arms with premium integral ball joints for nearly 1.4 million 2002-2005 Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator models. Unlike other control arms offered for these applications, the new parts (No. K620224 and No. K620225) feature premium MOOG ball joints engineered to deliver exceptional performance and durability.

The MOOG team also has introduced a rear lower control arm (No. K640259) for nearly 2.6 million 2003-2006 Honda Accord and 2004-2008 Acura TSX models; rear upper center and upper front control arms for a broad range of late-model BMW applications; a rear upper control arm for 1989-1998 Suzuki Sidekick and X90 models; and right and left front lower control arms for late-model Scion XA and XB models.

Other new MOOG parts include what Federal-Mogul says is a first-to-market rear sway bar link kit for Audi A4 sedans and wagons, and A5, S5 and Q5 models; front sway bar link kit for more than 500,000 Ford F150 4WD and F Series Super Duty 2WD and 4WD trucks; lower ball joint for more than 625,000 Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Avenger, and Dodge Journey Models; and a broad array of alignment shims and bushings for several late-model foreign nameplate and domestic applications.

“We have invested significant resources in extending our coverage leadership in the control arm category,” said Mark Boyle, director, steering and suspension products, Federal-Mogul. “In each case, the MOOG brand offers an advanced design with premium components and materials engineered to deliver best-in-class performance and service life.”

According to Federal-Mogul, the MOOG brand offers the aftermarket’s most comprehensive coverage of the North American vehicle population and includes hundreds of exclusive Problem Solver parts that are easier to install and provide superior performance and durability. MOOG components are the No. 1 choice of automotive service professionals and NASCAR crew chiefs, the company states.

I sometimes share case studies of the clients I have been able to assist in my role as an aftermarket business broker and provider of intermediary and advisory services. I do that when I think the story will provide a reader in similar circumstances with new insights or helpful information.
In the case of Cowden Automotive, Inc., I acted in a consulting capacity assisting the owner and his broker in valuing the business, creating a marketing plan, finding a qualified buyer, and arranging financing for the sale.

Will You Adapt And Cope With Changing Technology?

I remember my boss complaining that electronic ignition was going to destroy our business back in the mid-’70s. “They are taking away our tune up business,” he would say. In some ways, he was right. Technology and change are things we can’t control. In fact, “change” is perhaps the one thing we can count on. And, as in life, it’s how we deal with change that matters.
