Colder weather is here – just in time for many Americans to embark on holiday road trips. According to an online survey commissioned by Bridgestone Americas and fielded by Harris Poll in October 2015, Americans will log a combined national average of 25 billion miles on the road to visit family and spend a combined average of $52 billion on travel during the holiday season.

Scheduled to run from the fourth quarter of 2015 through the first quarter of 2016, the integrated campaign underscores the critical importance of visibility to safe driving and is based on the fact that if drivers can’t see clearly for one second while driving at 60 mph, then they can’t see clearly for 88 feet, and a lot can happen in 88 feet.

For the second consecutive year, AAPEX has reported attendance increases in several of its target buyer categories, with independent garages showing the largest growth at nearly 43 percent. Significant increases also were reported in the target buyer categories of auto parts retailers and warehouse distributors (WDs), import parts specialists and program groups.

MAHLE Aftermarket Inc. recently named Minnesota-native Paul Nelson as the fifth annual MAHLE Aftermarket Champion Technician. The Automotive Service Association (ASA) has announced a new initiative designed to bring management and technical training to several regions of the United States in 2016. First up, ASA has scheduled a training event for February in Orlando, Florida. This event will be held in conjunction with ASA’s newest affiliate: ASA-Florida. The Auto Care Association applauds the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) approval of a final consent order against BMW’s MINI Division. The FTC claimed that MINI violated the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act by telling consumers that BMW would void their warranty unless they used MINI parts and MINI dealers to perform maintenance and repair work.

Automakers’ decision to eliminate the spare tire may leave more than 30 million drivers vulnerable at the roadside, according to new research from AAA. Tire inflator kits, a high-cost alternative for consumers, have replaced the spare tire in millions of vehicles over the past 10 model years and, due to their limited functionality, cannot provide even a temporary fix for many common tire-related problems.

On Dec. 2, the Automotive Service Association (ASA), ASA-Midwest and the Missouri Alliance of Automotive Service Providers (AASP-MO) will host the second annual safety inspection forum in St. Louis. The forum’s mission is to raise awareness about the importance of periodic vehicle inspection programs to motorist’s safety and develop strategies to protect these programs nationwide.
