Federated Car Care Center member Doug Dugger chose classic over contemporary when he picked a fully restored 1949 Chevy pickup as his grand prize in the Federated Car Care “Pick Your Pickup” Sweepstakes. Dugger received his “new” pickup during a reception held on Nov. 4 at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas.

The 2015 “Search for a Champion” racing sponsorship contest is now open for entries. The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) has announced a new certification category for those involved in servicing hybrid vehicles. The Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist (L3) is a new advanced level certification geared toward technicians who perform diagnosis and repairs on hybrid/electric vehicles. Technicians can register starting Dec. 1, 2014. Testing begins in January 2015.
MAHLE Service Solutions announced TechPRO, a new, versatile, software-based, laptop or tablet-enabled diagnostic scan tool at AAPEX. “At its core, the TechPRO diagnostic scan tool was produced to help professional technicians quickly analyze, diagnose and repair today’s sophisticated computer-controlled vehicles. It is designed to help technicians work smarter, not harder,” said Max Dull, general manager, MAHLE Service Solutions.

Echoing the long-standing contention by the Auto Care Association that automakers mislead consumers into wrongfully believing that servicing their vehicles outside dealerships might void warranties, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) has assailed the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) about its lack of urgency in clarifying its interpretation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

Dugger, the owner of Custom Auto and Repair, a Federated Car Care Center in Twin Falls, Idaho, will announce his choice on Nov. 4 at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX).

On Friday, Nov. 14, the Automotive Service Association (ASA) and the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), the light vehicle aftermarket division of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA), will host the Vehicle Safety Inspection and Maintenance Forum in East Norriton, Pa.
The Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) has debuted a series of “Ask Joe” videos to help attendees prepare for AAPEX and grow their business while at the event. AAPEX is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 4 through Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Sands Expo Center, Las Vegas, Nev., with AAPEXedu sessions starting on Monday, Nov. 3.

As the “Chase” heats up, Federated will continue to be in the thick of the action. After sponsoring the Federated Auto Parts 400 on Sept. 6, the last race before the “Chase,” Federated has announced it also will be the presenting sponsor of the ESPN broadcast of the NASCAR Sprint Cup race on Nov. 2 at Texas Motor Speedway.
