The Automotive Management Institute (AMI) is accepting applications for the annual $1,000 Tom B. Babcox Memorial Scholarship. AMI’s resource development effort, EXCEL, in conjunction with Babcox Media, established the scholarship, which is awarded to an Automotive Service Association (ASA) Mechanical Division member who strives to be, or is presently working, in a management capacity.
The Car Care Council Women’s Board (WB) raised more than $4,500 in its silent auction during the 2014 Women’s Board winter meeting, held Feb. 4-5 at the Renaissance Charleston in Charleston, S.C. Items for the auction were donated by WB associate companies and aftermarket supporters, and all proceeds will go to the WB scholarship fund, allowing the WB to award a record number of scholarships in 2014.

Federated Auto Parts will serve as the title sponsor of three ARCA races this season, including two at the Salem (Ind.) Speedway, it was announced recently by J.R. Bishop, director of motorsports and event marketing for Federated. Besides its ARCA race sponsorships, Federated will be the primary sponsor of the Schrader Racing ARCA car this season. Longtime Federated spokesperson Kenny Schrader will share the driving duties with Matt Tifft and Clay Campbell.
Organizers of the AAPEXedu Webinar Series say the program is off to a solid start with 218 registrants participating in the first attendee webinar, “Prospect to Customer: How to Use Micro-Conversions to Build Your Business.” The first exhibitor webinar, “The Exhibitor Report Card from AAPEX 2013,” drew 114 registrants.
Anthony Foxx, U.S. Department of Transportation secretary, announced recently that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will begin taking steps toward a proposed mandate requiring new vehicles to contain vehicle-to-vehicle technology (V2V). NHTSA notes that this technology will “improve safety by allowing vehicles to ‘talk’ to each other and ultimately avoid many crashes altogether by exchanging basic safety data, such as speed and position, 10 times per second.”
Federal-Mogul has announced the addition of nearly 70 parts to its MOOG Steering and Suspension product line. The latest expansion of the MOOG line includes more than 50 parts for late-model foreign nameplate passenger vehicles from BMW, Honda, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Subaru, Toyota and other manufacturers.
