#OurSharedStory: Color Your Way Calm

Research shows coloring has the same positive effects as meditation and can even help improve focus and sleep.

While some states and countries begin the process of reopening the economy and heading back to work during the global COVID-19 pandemic, stress and worry continue to be a daily struggle for most people – adults and children alike. While we all work to adjust to our own “new normal,” stress management will play a critical role in adapting more easily.

One easy and relaxing way to manage stress and worry is that classic childhood pastime: coloring. According to Beaumont Health, “Coloring has the ability to relax the fear center of your brain, the amygdala. It induces the same state as meditating by reducing the thoughts of a restless mind. This generates mindfulness and quietness, which allows your mind to get some rest after a long day at work.”

The health organization says coloring also can help improve focus, sleep and even motor skills and vision. According to a report from CNN, the adult coloring book trend really started to grow in popularity in 2012 and 2013, “with everyone from researchers at Johns Hopkins University to the editors of Yoga Journal suggesting coloring as an alternative to meditation.”

So, go grab those colored pencils and get creative. Today we offer you the Babcox Media automotive-themed coloring book free to download as a printable PDF.
