The Automotive Service Association (ASA) has announced a new initiative designed to bring management and technical training to several regions of the United States in 2016. First up, ASA has scheduled a training event for February in Orlando, Florida. This event will be held in conjunction with ASA’s newest affiliate: ASA-Florida. Recently, the Automotive Service Association (ASA) and the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers (Alliance) held a press conference to present a new information resource tool for automobile repairers. If implemented, this bill would amend the insurance code to prohibit insurers from requiring automotive repairers to use a specific vendor or process to procure parts and other materials, allowing shop owners to do business with the vendors they choose.

U.S. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) has introduced H.R. 1181, the Public Access to Motor Vehicle Safety Information bill. This legislation was introduced partly in response to recent automaker safety issues and airbag defects. Schakowsky said, “Over the past year and a half, we have seen a record number of recalls and far too many serious injuries and deaths. It’s time for stronger driver, passenger, and pedestrian safeguards, and the Vehicle Safety Improvement Act delivers on that need.”
On Friday, Nov. 14, the Automotive Service Association (ASA) and the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA) hosted a Vehicle Safety Inspection and Maintenance Forum in East Norriton, Pa. The presenters covered a range of topics including the importance of vehicle safety inspection programs in the prevention of crashes, threats to existing programs and potential changes to the program in Pennsylvania and other states.
